KATHMANDU: In a significant move to make driving licence services more technology-friendly and systematic, a new digital system has been officially launched in Nepal. Developed in collaboration with the Department of Transport Management (DoTM) and various provincial governments, the Electronic Driving Licence and Vehicle Registration System (EDLVRS) is now in implementation.
With this new system, service seekers can now handle tasks such as new licence applications, renewals, and government revenue payments entirely online from home.
Key Features of the New System
1. Online Licence Application: Service seekers no longer need to stand in long queues to collect vouchers or submit physical forms. Applications can be submitted directly through the official portal of the respective province.
2. Online Renewal: Existing licence holders can now submit renewal applications by entering their details online.
3. Digital Revenue Payments: Licence fees and related revenue can be paid through integrated online payment gateways, eliminating the need to visit transport offices just for payments.
4. Autofill via Nagarik App and National Identity Card: The system is integrated with the Nagarik App and National Identity Card. Personal details such as name, date of birth, and address will autofill automatically, making the form-filling process fast and hassle-free.
Do You Still Need to Visit the Transport Office?
While the application process is now online, physical presence at the transport office remains mandatory for specific foundational steps in the first phase:
New applicants must still visit the respective office for biometric registration, medical examination, written tests, and practical trials.
